Manny took this photo of the Rockefeller Christmas tree. He works somewhere on one of the upper floors, near the middle. If you're so inclined, maybe you can estimate the floor from the camera angle. I read that the tree for 2012 is an 80-foot Norway spruce from Flanders, New Jersey.
Good-bye to all that this week. We're flying to Chicago, "The Second City," where I imagine a tree that's second to this one is on proud display.
The first ten years after we moved to New York, I didn't need a winter coat. A warm sweater would do it. No need for boots, although I probably wore a scarf and hat if I was going to spend hours outside. Over time, however, my tolerance for Chicago's weather has weakened. I'm a pampered New Yorker who whines when a hurricane knocks out the power for a week.
